Chicago Cubs Rumors: Aroldis Chapman Should Be a Serious MLB Offseason Trade Target

The MLB offseason has arrived and the Chicago Cubs rumors are beginning to swirl around in a big way. One name that is likely to be on the move is Aroldis Chapman, who should be a very trade target for Theo Epstein and the Cubs.

Spending big bucks on another starting pitcher is likely going to be in the cards, but adding more bullpen help is a big need as well. Chapman would fill that perfectly and would allow Hector Rondon to move to the setup man. Having that one-two punch at the back end of the bullpen would give them so many options.

Chapman is without question the most dynamic closer in baseball and the Cincinnati Reds are aggressively searching to trade him. They are looking to rebuild and Chapman is one of the top pieces that they have that could bring back some sort of value.

Last season with the Reds, Chapman ended up recording 33 saves to go along with a 1.63 ERA

At 27 years old, the Cubs would add a piece that fits well with their young team that they could keep in town long-term. If they are serious about making a run to the World Series, they need to go all in and spend money and move assets to make it happen. Chapman won't be cheap to acquire, but the Cubs have plenty of young talent that could get the job done.

Chicago was just a few pieces away from making a run to the World Series this past season. They ran into one of the hottest teams in baseball and the New York Mets proceeded to cool off in the World Series. Next season is going to be a new year with plenty of growth from the Cubs' youth, which bodes well for the teams chances.

There are going to be plenty of other teams in line to try and acquire Chapman this offseason. If the Cubs want to get him, they are going to have to make an aggressive pitch to make it happen.

Expect to hear plenty more rumors surrounding the Cubs over the next week or two and don't be surprised to see them aggressively trying to make a splash. Chapman may or may not be in the cards for them, but adding him would be a very smart move if they can make it happen.
