Randy Travis' health is improving since his near death illness over the summer.  What better way to celebrate than with a brand new music video from his latest album The Influence Vol 1? The cover album features one original track, "Tonight I'm Playing Possum," a touching tribute to the late George Jones.

One of country music's most influential artists, Randy Travis, has released a new record paying homage to his influences. The singer spoke about his decision to release a cover album on his website, RandyTravis.com:

“When I think of my musical heroes of yesteryear, or the younger stars of this year, I am reminded that it is true we learn from the ones ahead of us, and teach the ones that follow. They are the reason I chose to make this album.”

However, not all the songs on the record are covers. The album features an original track, "Tonight I'm Playing Possum," which pays tribute to the late George Jones who passed away earlier in the year. In the new song, Travis sings:

"So find a drink or find a road, I'm 'bout to drop a needle on some ol' no show
You're gonna want an ashtray and a bottle
I'm going deep, I'm going long 'til I run that needle through every last song
He ever sung, so pour 'em strong and smoke 'em if you got 'em"

Randy got the chance to record with Jones on his previous release, 2011's 25th Anniversary Celebration Album. That record was a retrospect of Travis' own hits, performed by himself and other artists. Travis' new album is personal but on a different level. It features the first time he has recorded with his touring band:

"This album marks the first time in Randy’s career to record a studio album with his touring band. Everyone that played on the album has been in the band and been longtime friends with Randy, creating a special feel in the studio that shines through on the project."
