‘Thor’s’ Shirtless Chris Hemsworth and Pregnant Wife Elsa Pataky Love Scene
It turns out that Chris Hemsworth is a modest hunk. Hemsworth had to be convinced to remove his shirt in Thor 2: The Dark World by Avengers director Joss Whedon. Meanwhile, it turns out that Hemsworth’s pregnant wife, Elsa Pataky, stood in for Natalie Portman for the film’s love scene.
Avengers writer/director, Joss Whedon, was flown in to work on a few scenes for Thor 2. The Dark World director Alan Taylor spoke with SFX over the summer about Whedon having to save the day:
"Joss came in to save our lives a couple of times. We had a major scene that was not working on the page at all in London, and he basically got airlifted in, like a SWAT team or something. He came down, rewrote the scene, and before he got back to his plane I sort of grabbed him and said 'And this scene and this scene?' and he rewrote two other scenes that I thought had problems. And we shot the scenes and they were just much better and much lighter on their feet. Much more fun, much more surprising than what we had been trying to do."
It turns out that Whedon’s time on set was spent seducing Chris Hemsworth. Whedon apparently ordered Hemsworth to remove his shirt for the scene, as Hemsworth explained to MTV:
"That [scene] kind of came from Joss actually. He just said that there needed to be something romantic in there. Then he said, 'Chris, get your shirt off.' I said, 'Well, I don't know. What's the why? What are we doing?'"
However, Whedon was able to use his trademark wit and Buffyesque charm to get Hemsworth out of his clothes.
Meanwhile, Natalie Portman recently opened up to NY Daily News about her steamy kiss with Hemsworth during the movie. It turns out that Hemsworth’s wife, actress Elsa Pataky, stood in for Portman:
"It was for reshoots (after the film was finished) and he was working in Hong Kong and I couldn't get there because I was working on my own film. And so they put his wife in my wig and costume, that's why it was so passionate."
