No Second Coming: Dave Bixby's New York Debut at ISSUE Project Room Set for February 15
Another earth-shattering annoucement from Brooklyn's own ISSUE Project Room, that beloved marble meets industrial space from the old Board of Education building on Boerum Hill.
Legendary folk musician Dave Bixby makes his first ever New York performance at ISSUE, playing his iconic records Ode to Quetzalcoatl and Second Coming in their entirety.
For his part, Bixby has a more interesting story than most. In 2006, his private press LPs that he recorded in Michigan were born again, ostensibly reintroducing him to the scene.
Now a civil war re-enactor, Bixby was involved in folk and garage rock bands such as Shillelaghs and Peter & the Prophets. He began experimenting with acoustic guitar around the time of his drug addiction--which brought him to his knees.
And yet, he recorded most of the songs featured on these two LPs in just a month and a half, proving his prodigious talent.
So, if you're not bumming after your terrible Valentine's Day celebration--or lack there of--shed a tear with Bixby as he croons at the ISSUE Project Room on Saturday, February 15.
ISSUE is located at 22 Boerum Place in downtown Brooklyn. Tickets are $15 with a five-dollar discount to members and students.
