Titus Young Undisclosed Mental Disorder Causing 5 Attacks In Two Months? Former Detroit Lions Wide Receiver Multiple Assault And Battery Charges And Burglary

Titus Young, former wide receiver for the Detroit Lions, was arrested on July 9 for attacking his lawyer, Brian Hurwitz. Young was already facing a mountain of legal trouble: his arrest came just one day before his pretrial hearing for which he was charged with seven counts of burglary and four counts of assault in May of last year. In just the last two months, Young has racked up 5 more charges; he's allegedly committed five attacks since May 28. Young is clearly troubled, but are all these outbursts the reactions of a violent, out-of-control ex-football player or, as his father insists, someone with a severe (yet currently undisclosed) mental disorder?

To date, Young is facing 16 counts of criminal activity, including 11 last year and 5 in the last two months. The most recent charge came from his (now ex) lawyer, who claims Young attacked him when he told Young he wasn't being released from the Martin Luther King, Jr. Harbor Hospital in LA where he was being held (via Detroit Free Press):

"According to the report, Young 'stood up from his chair and punched (Hurwitz) several times to his face. After being punched by (Young), (Hurwitz) said he lost consciousness. After regaining consciousness, (Hurwitz) said he was bleeding profusely from his nose and that his nose was swollen and felt broken. He also had pain to his forehead and jaw area.'"

Bail was set at $105,000.

Young definitely seems dangerous, but his father, Richard, says that he is suffering from mental health issues (via Dead Spin):

"'We just haven't been able to get him help,' Young's father said in a phone interview Tuesday. 'They take him to the hospital for a couple of days, then they have to let him out. They can't hold him. It's been going on a long time. We don't know what we're going to do right now.'"
