New USA Medical Drama ‘Rush’ Starring ‘Dr Who’s’ Tom Ellis: Show Compared To ‘Royal Pains’ [SPOILERS]

USA’s new dark medical drama, Rush is all new tonight. The new show is very similar to Royal Pains in concept, with drastically different characters. The new show’s leading Dr. is former Doctor Who vet Tom Ellis. Check out the preview of the new episode below to see just how different Rush is is Royal Pains.

The official plot synopsis for tonight’s all new episode, titled “Learning to Fly,” reads:

“Rush contends with a medical emergency and reaches out to his estranged father while Eve must confront a figure from her past.”

The show bare a few similarities to USA’s other out of the hospital medical drama, Royal Pains. Recently Rush Executive Producer Craig Wright opened up to Bustle about the comparisons:

“We would never want to be accused of copying [Royal Pains]. Rush is on a much different personal journey than Hank, and as is the family of characters around him. I’d say that everyone on Rush has a few more skeletons in their closet, and definitely has on a week-to-week basis an unfolding story that’s drawing them deeper and deeper to their own demons in a way that will differentiate the show quite clearly.”

In the series Tom Ellis plays Dr. William P. Rush, a dark drug using doctor with shady clients. Ellis also spoke to TV Guide about the show, adding:

"This guy likes to live vicariously through himself. He enjoys the taking of the drugs, he enjoys the multiple women, he enjoys the finer things in life. At the heart of it all, this is a guy who has made decisions to be the person he is and live the life that he has, but he's still a good guy. He's just made some, or continues to make, bad choices…He's a flawed character, but not because he takes drugs. He's flawed and he takes drugs."

Check out the all new episode Rush tonight on USA.
