Billboard Charts Top 5 Classical Music Albums Released, Andre Rieu Reigns Supreme

One of the last Billboard listing for 2012 sees old favorites on the classical music charts dominate the top five while, a newcomer makes a push into the brackets of the genre. It's not uncommon for albums in the genre to hold down a position for so long but many of this year's albums have.

Holding the No.1 spot for the week is Dutchman Andre Rieu with his "Home For The Holidays." Even since his album debuted on the charts, Rieu, has not slipped out of the top five. His album hovers in the Billboard 200 at No. 84 and sits at No. 29 on the Holiday Albums charts.

At No. 2 on the charts is Il Volo. The Italian trio's "We Are Love," has been widely succesful. Their "Il Volo...Takes Flight," album is No. 9 on the charts. The group is coming of a good year working with Placido Domingo and Barbra Streisand. The opera singers have also performed at the 19th edition of the Nobel Peace Prized held in Oslo, Norway.

After the Italians, is the Welsh songstress Katherine Jenkins with her "This Christmas." Jenkins album is consistently in the top five but despite this feat, her highest position is at No. 3 where she currently sits. Her album has rocket up the charts and has had a six week stay among classical music's elite.

What is a bit of a surprise is Jackie Evancho's "Songs From The Silver Screen," falling to No. 4. The 12-year-old singer has dominated the charts for months. Evancho is currently touring the United States with a big concert coming up in January at Chicago's Symphony Center.

Like Evancho, The Piano Guys have spent 10 weeks on the countdown and have never left the top ten of the Billboard charts. Their self-entitled album "The Piano Guys," sits at No. 5. The Piano Guys has to be the feel good story of 2012, a group of mid-western guys who took to YouTube and became famous. The group just wrapped up a few performance in Idaho and Utah.
