'50 Shades! The Musical - The Original Parody' Continues to Sell Out, Even With a Movie on the Way

CORRECTION: A previous version of this post reported incorrectly that 50 Shades! The Musical - The Original Parody was closing on August 31. Classicalite regrets the error.

It didn't take long for E. L. James' controversial porno-mance novel 50 Shades of Grey to become the subject of an Off-Broadway parody.

In fact, at one point, there were TWO 50 Shades musicals playing in New York.

With its big screen adaptation set for release come February 2015, 50 Shades! The Musical - The Original Parody (the better of the dueling musicals, no doubt) centers around a gossipy book club that discuss the book's BDSM themes while Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey are poked fun at in a most vulgar, yet witty fashion.

A quote I found most enjoyable from the New York Times' admittedly favorable review: "This is real life; this isn't a book," Anastasia says. "If it was, it would be terrible."

Personally, I haven't read any of the three volumes as my time seems more valuable than the paperbacks themselves. But I might brush up on the mommy porn stuff just so I can attend the musical with a full glass of knowledge.

Directed by Al Samuels and Rob Lindley, tickets can be found via the website or by calling (866) 811-4111.

Check it out and snag tickets while it's still around.
