The second episode of the Boston Symphony Orchestra's behind-the-scenes web series “New Tanglewood Tales: Backstage with Rising Artists” continues their showcasing of fellows in residence at the BSO’s summer academy. Featured this go 'round: percussionist Jeffrey DeRoche, flutist Masha Popova, cellist Clare Monfredo and conductor Karina Canellakis.
Nestled in the rolling Berkshire hills at the Tanglewood Music Center, DeRoche touches on working with BSO percussionist William Hudgins for a performance of Christopher Rouse’s grand percussion ensemble piece Ogoun Badagris.
Meanwhile, Popova is shown rehearsing a new wind quintet under the guidance of Boston's principal flutist Elizabeth Rowe, and we then cut to a glimpse of Maesta Canellakis--soaking up everything from TMC conducting chair Stefan Asbury.
Lastly, cello player Monfredo performs in a masterclass for faculty member Mark Sokol, no doubt prepping for Tanglewood's String Quartet Marathon.
The web doc, which also includes footage from Conor McDonald (baritone) and Jacob Shack (viola), is meant to present both the professional and personal sides of these talented fellows during their stay at Tanglewood.
