22nd Annual Charlie Parker Jazz Festival Kicks Off August 23 in Marcus Garvey Park

The City Parks Foundation and Summerstage is excited to announce the next installment in the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival, founded in memoriam of jazz giant Charlie "Yardbird" Parker. The festival will kick off in Marcus Garvey Park in Harlem on August  23 and Tompkins Square Park on August 24.

Almost 60 years after his death, Parker is celebrated as one of the pioneers of be-bop, adding to the jazz canon with songs that instantly became standards.

As Miles Davis once said, "You can tell the history of jazz in four words: Louis Armstrong. Charlie Parker."

The festival will also features two panel discussions entitled "The Marriage of Latin Music & Jazz" led by Joe Conzo Sr., a Latin music historian and publicist of the late Tito Puente.
