David T. Little's 'JFK' Opera to Premiere at Fort Worth April 2016, Royce Varek Composing Libretto

The Kennedys will receive an exciting new tribute in David T. Little's forthcoming opera JFK, a new performance that details the ultimate twelve hours of JFK's life. The world premiere will take place at the Fort Worth Opera on April 23, 2016, but a preview workshop will come in November via The American Lyric Theater.

The workshop will feature the singers who will perform in the premiere in Fort Worth. The cast will be announced Monday but the New York Times states that singers will include baritone Matthew Worth in the title role, the mezzo-soprano Daniela Mack as Jackie Kennedy and bass-baritone Daniel Okulitch as Lyndon B. Johnson.

The libretto composition is done by Royce Varek, and in association with Little, the duo gave an early libretto reading last November at the Fort Worth Hilton--formerly known as the Hotel Texas (where Kennedy stayed before the assassination).

Thankfully New Yorkers won't have to purchase a flight to Texas to witness the latest from Little and Varek. And with a cast heavy with remarkable voices the opera intends to deliver the impact JFK and his death had on a nation (interestingly, the story will be told through his dreams).

In the meantime, here's an interview video from a Varek-Little production, Dog Days, also premiering at the Fort Worth Opera on April 25, 2015.
