Heather Graham Drops Out of Neil LaBute's 'The Money Shot' in Favor of Her Own Film Project

Heather Graham has dropped out of the world premiere production of Neil LaBute's new play The Money Shot at MCC Theater just two and half weeks before previews were to begin. The reported reason: Things just now fell into place for Graham's film Half Magic, which she wrote and is to direct and star in.

For Graham, the screen star known for Boogie Nights, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, "Twin Peaks" and "Californication," it would have been a rare stage appearance. The actress made her Off-Broadway debut in a 2003 production of Craig Wright's Recent Tragic Events, but is known almost entirely for her screen work.

The Money Shot, according to the MCC Theater website, concerns two "glamorous movie stars with one thing in common: desperation. It's been years since either one's had a hit, but the latest movie by a hot shot European director could change that."

Elizabeth Reaser ("The Good Wife," "True Detective") will step in to replace Graham. The rest of the cast – Gia Crovatin (reasons to be pretty), Golden Globe-nominee Callie Thorne (Necessary Roughness, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot) and Frederick Weller ("In Plain Sight") – remains intact. Terry Kinney, who has collaborated frequently with LaBute, will direct the play, which begins performances Sept. 4 prior to a Sept. 22 opening at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. The run is scheduled through Oct. 12.
