Deutsche Grammophon Launches 'DG Discovery' Streaming App for iTunes Store

The venerable label Deutsche Grammophon has launched DG Discovery, the world’s first classical label streaming app. Right now, Grammophon’s app offers subscribers access to performances and information on 450 albums by 30 of the most popular names on their roster, all performed by some 80 DG artists.

The information is all yours at either a month-to-month fee of $3.99, or a 12-month discounted subscription fee of $35.99 (that's $2.99/month).

Afraid of commitment? A free version of DG Discovery with 30-second streamed samples of all tracks in the app’s catalog is also available.

“DG Discovery marks an exciting step forward in taking the joys of classical music to as wide an audience as possible,” said president of Deutsche Grammophon Mark Wilkinson. “The digital audience is our audience, and 'Discovery' can do exactly that--take listeners on a journey, open doors and enlighten and enrich their understanding of this great, timeless music.

DG Discovery’s search function runs though each composer or artist name with corresponding information on both person and music. A section called "Product Pages" allows access to the original album liner notes, as well as ta must-have share function. Meanwhile, "Artist Pages" provide links to websites, photos, videos and other A.V. material.

The app will be updated every month with over 20 new albums. Moreover, the homepage is designed to refresh to 12 new playlists every week, organized by artist, composer and timely themes.

Subscribers, too, can create playlists and share with their Facebook connections.

Lastly, a tap-and-buy button provides access to buy tracks and albums from the DG Discovery catalog via the iTunes store.
