There is no new episode of the Boy Meets World sequel series, Girl Meets World on tonight, but have no fear. There will be plenty of new episodes to come. In addition to the new episodes airing in September, the show has now been renewed for a second season. That is good news for fans of the new Disney Channel sitcom, and its predecessor.
The Disney Channel has officially renewed Girl Meets World for a second season. The Disney Channel’s Executive Vice President of Original Programming, Adam Bonnett, announced the renewal via a press statement, adding:
"The series swiftly became a favorite of kids and their parents, many of whom grew up with 'Boy Meets World. We're looking forward to watching Riley Matthews and Maya Hart make the world their own, as Cory and Topanga teach them life lessons along the way."
Corey Matthews himself,Ben Savage, tweeted about the renewal, writing:
“Great news - Girl Meets World has been picked up for season 2! Thank you for your support GMW fans.”
Earlier in the year, Ben Savage spoke with TV Guide about reprising his role for the sequel series:
"The idea for Girl Meets World had been floating and bubbling for a couple months before I actually got a call about it [and] once I got an official call ... I didn't say yes right away. I think there was a little bit of hesitation because we just wanted to make sure that if we were gonna come back and we were gonna do something with the show, that we wanted to do something that we're all proud of and we're all supportive of and that we could all get excited about."
Savage went on to add that there have been various different ideas to reprise the series over the years:
"I think none of them materialized because none of us felt we could tell a new story.I think that's the most important thing to us: to tell a new story. So, that's what we've really been focusing on--making sure this show can cater to a new generation."
