Dolph Ziggler Intercontinental Champion After Injury, Strong Title Run Could Keep Him Relevant

The Show Off Dolph Ziggler might have bought himself some time with his recent acquisition of the Intercontinental Title. The champ is making his way back up the food chain after being stripped of the World Heavyweight strap last year. While the World Title scene is full of players right now, Ziggler can at least tread water in the mid card for a year or so. A lot of smarks think the IC Belt is irrelevant, but they're wrong.

There is a valid concern that the WWE is about to experience an influx of hot new talent, but it's erroneous to suggest that there isn't room for Ziggler.

He's over now with literally no push from WWE Creative. What we have on our hands is another Daniel Bryan.

Still, there are doubts that he can hang with the young pups (via Bleacher Report):

"With WWE in transition, Ziggler currently finds himself as a tweener, still in his prime yet mired in a bygone era linked to an outdated WWEdevelopmental model."

Even his reputation for being injury-prone was put to the test as he suffered a huge gash on his knee right after winning the strap (via Sports Keeda):

"Reader Darren W. reported that Dolph's knee was cut wide open and he was bleeding a lot and after his win over The Miz, he was checked on by a referee before walking to the back on his own."

Ziggler's organic resurrection at the hands of the WWE Universe won't likely be undone by a crowded house. He has the talent, charisma and looks to stay at the top of the food chain for the foreseeable future, even if he can't get a title shot right away.
