Producer Son Lux Plays FlexBall Razor Piano in Gillette Commercial at Hammerstein Ballroom

Producer Son Lux put Gillette’s new FlexBall razor to the test playing a custom piano built with individual razors tickling the ivories in the latest Gillette commercial

Advertising agency Grey and production house 1stAveMachine created the compelling visual to the unheard of instrument. The commercial opens with Son Lux performing a piece he composed specifically for Gillette on the razor piano at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. As Son Lux’s fingers stammer across the piano, the FlexBall razors’ 3D pivoting head strike the keys creating the sound.

Composer and producer Son Lux, a.k.a. Ryan Lott, is no stranger to collaboration. He has touched on work by Lorde, Serengeti, Sisyphus and Sufjan Stevens. Lately, Lux has been hanging around the yMusic crew. He produced their latest album Balance Problems, due out September 30 on New Amsterdam Records featuring good friend Sufjian Stevens, Nico Muhly, Timo Andres, works by NOW Ensemble guitarist Mark Dancigers and many more.

The Anticon man got his start composing tunes for the commercial biz so it is only fitting that he pay it forward to Gillette's assumingly smooth strokes. Son Lux joins a gang of talent in the Gillette commercials past, including pro athletes and movie stars like Kate Upton. There is also the unbelievably sexy commercial with André 3000 Benjamin, Gael García Bernal and Adrien Brody.

Watch below the magic that is Mr. Lux playing a razor blade-rigged piano, propelling the piano just a little further into the spotlight.
