FINALLY THE ROCK HAS confirmed that he will be playing Black Adam in an upcoming DC comics film. After months of speculation that he would be playing anyone from Lobo to The Green Lantern John Stewart, Dwayne Johnson has officially announced that he will be playing the super-powered antihero Black Adam in the upcoming Shazam! movie. Johnson had recently confirmed that he landed a role in the film, but didn’t reveal whether he would be playing Captain Marvel or his rival.
Dwayne Johnson has confirmed his role in the upcoming Shazam! film, tweeting:

For those you who do not already know, Black Adam, also known as, Teth Adam/Theo Adam, is Captain Marvel’s rival, who also possess the powers of SHAZAM!. Think Superman with lighting. By shouting the magic word, both men are gifted with great strength, speed, endurance, and so on.
Toby Emmerich, President and COO of New Line, previously released a statement to Variety about casting Johnson:
“We Love Dwayne and have had nothing but success with him over the years. When I look at Dwayne both off screen and on screen, he is such a larger than life character and it just made perfect sense to me that we put him in a DC comic movie. You look at these comic book characters and they have this certain swag and charisma that Dwayne carries with him where ever he is so that’s why this always made sense.”
