Latvian Conductor Andris Nelsons Joined By Latvian Violinist Baiba Skride To Perform Shostakovic, Tchaikovsky In Boston Symphony Orchestra

One of the most sought after young Latvian conductors Andris Nelsons, will be joined by Latvian violinist Baiba Skride in Boston Symphony Orchestra on the last day of January 2013 to perform pieces from Shostakovic, Tchaikovsky.

Baiba Skride will make her debut in Boston Symphony Orchestra as a soloist in Shostakovich's Violin Concerto No. 1. Even though Shostakovich wrote his Violin Concerto No. 1 in 1940s, the piece had its premiere after Stalin's death in 1955.

The second half of the concert will belong to Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5.

Conductor Andris Nelsons recently made his debut in Japan with Wiener Philharmoniker. This season he will debut with Gewandhausorchester Leipzig.  Andris Nelsons made himself a good name on the concert podiums as well as on the opera ones.

Violinist Baiba Skride performed with such orchestras like Sinfonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunk, Sydney Symphony, US orchestras of Philadelphia, Houston and Cincinnati, just to name a few. Skride released several recordings containing pieces from Johannes Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Schostakowitsch, Janacek, among others.
