There has been a hailstorm of headlines surrounding the recent death of comedian Joan Rivers. Some are celebratorial. Some are memorial and some are unkind.
Yesterday, Mel Brooks spoke about Rivers on Conan.
“She was sharp, she was really bright, really funny, and very dangerous,” said Brooks. He commented on her ability to still break boundaries in a no-holds-barred society. To wit, Brooks himself donned a wig and hosted her “Joan Rivers Show,” exemplifying her characterized talent.
And we recently touched on how Broadway would not give Rivers the pleasure of dimming their lights in memorium. Of course, that was due to the fact that her passing was not “Broadway worthy” and that she hasn’t worked on Broadway for over 20 years.
However, what we found today on Twitter was but a classical music gem. Entitled “Joan Rivers Comedienne,” what lies below is a top ten list of operas. Perhaps Rivers wanted to star in them. Perhaps Broadway knew that and therefore would not turn the lights down low for her. Who knows. The origins of this list are unknown, but the contents hit home.
All of our favorites make the cut including: Puccini’s Turandot, Bellini’s Norma and Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier, to name but a few.
