Jonas Kaufmann Takes On Title Role Of Wagner's 'Parsifal'
Born in Munich, tenor Jonas Kaufmann will star in a title role of Wagner's Parsifal, a new production of the Metropolitan Opera.
Wagner's Parsifal had its premiere in 1882. Met production of Parsifal will open February 15, 2013, which is a bicentennial year of Wagner's birth.
Parsifal, is a story about a foolish young man who over the course of the opera grows up in a mature man who gains wisdom through compassion and is able to bring healing to Amfortas who is the current leader of the Grail Knights, as well as to revive the Grail Brotherhood.

Jonas Kaufmann debuted in the Metropolitan Opera as Alfredo. The title role in Parsifal, is Jonas Kaufmann's second Wagner assignment with The Metropolitan Opera after successful Die Walküre where he played Siegmund, just two seasons ago.
Kaufmann started close associatin with the Zurich Opera in 2001 when he appeared in several productions such as Idomeneo, Tosca, Carmen, to name a few.
Kaufmann debuted in Wagner's Persifal in 2007. Jonas Kaufmann made his first appearance in The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden as Ruggero in La Rondine.
Since then, Jonas Kaufmann appeared on stage with many top conductors and orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic.

In the Met's production of Parsifal, Kaufmann will be joined by Katarina Dalayman as Kundry, René Pape as Gurnemanz, Peter Mattei will sing Amfortas, and Evgeny Nikitin will play the evil sorcerer Klingsor.
