David Byrne's Luaka Bop Record Label Celebrates 25 Years with Modern Sky Festival, 'Atomic Bomb! Who is William Onyeabor?' Performance at Central Park

The futuristic Afro-punk sounds of Atomic Bomb! Who is William Onyeabor? will make an appearance in Central Park Oct. 4 for the Modern Sky Festival as part of record label Luaka Bop’s 25th birthday party.

Set to perform Onyeabor’s music is Jamie Lidell and The Mahotella Queens, Atomic Bomb!’s Ahmed Ghallab and his band Sinkane and Money Mark and Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor, along with a group of horn players, Nigerian percussionists and several unannounced special guests.

David Byrne's own label, Luaka Bop, released Atomic Bomb! Who is William Onyeabor? in 2013 and followed with a 2014 remix album. The album What?! William Onyeabor was a project with the Moog synthesizer company, which made Onyeabor-branded synthesizers for the remixers. The album featured Hot Chip, Justin Strauss, The Vaccines and JD Twitch, to name a few.

Launched in Beijing in 2007, The Modern Sky Festival is home to Modern Sky Entertainment, producers of more than 20 music festivals throughout China.

The Central Park event will also feature Cat Power, Stars, Liars, The Blood Brothers, The Both (Aimee Mann + ed Leo) and Lenka. Hailing from China are Chinese rock/electronic music artists including Zhang Xuan, Re-TROS, Queen Sea Big Shark and Second Hand Rose.
