Acclaimed Ballet Star José Manuel Carreño Special Guest At Ballet San Jose In Role Of Basilio In 'Don Quixote'

Acclaimed international star José Manuel Carreño will dance as a special guest in Ballet San Jose in the role of Basilio in ballet 'Don Quixote.'

Company's premiere of ballet 'Don Quixote' is based on an episode from well known a novel titled Don Quixote de la Mancha, written by Miguel de Cervantes.

The story is about a title hero Don Quixote, a middle aged country gentleman soaked with tales of chivalry, who departs on a journey to defend virtue and honor. Don Quixote travels with his servant Sancho Panza, who acts a his armor-bearer. On the way to Barcelona, Don Quixote mistakes an innkeeper's daughter for his dream-lover Dulcinea. The ballet contains aspects of comedy, drama and fantasy.

José Manuel Carreño is a Cuban retired ballet dancer, former principal dancer at the English National Ballet, Royal Ballet, and American Ballet Theatre.

Carreño will perform at the opening ceremony on Friday, February 15, as well as on Sunday afternoon, February 17, which will be the closing matinee.
