Flying Lotus, Aitor Throup Nowness Short Film on Swedish Actress Noomi Rapace

Flying Lotus has collaborated with British artist and designer Aitor Throup for a short film project on Swedish actress Noomi Rapace. Thorup describes the film as a “three-dimensional portrait of Rapace being intricately sculpted but also acts as a portrait of her by acting as a metaphor for the various chronological steps in the actor’s process.”

Essentially, it s a portrait of an actress and her ritual of getting ready for a role. For the score, FlyLo gathered six unreleased tracks creating a manic jazz and funk sound. The cuts are said to be the result of initial conversations with Flying Lotus and Throup on the project.

No stranger to the film biz, Flying Lotus worked with director Kahlil Joseph on two shorts in support of FlyLo’s 2012 album, Until the Quiet Comes. The album companion film won a Sundance award. Following , last year they dropped the short film “Wildcat” starring FlyLo as a cowboy.

This week Flying Lotus’ latest album, You’re Dead!, will be released on October 7 via Warp Records. The record’s tracks include “Never Catch Me” with Kendrick Lamar, “Coronus, the Terminator” and “Moment of Hesitation”, featuring Herbie Hancock, which premired on the airwaves via BBC earlier this fall.
