42nd Annual George London Foundation Awards Announces Winners

On March 1st, 2013, winners of the 42nd annual George London Foundation Awards were announced at Gilder Lehrman Hall at The Morgan Library & Museum, New York, NY.

The winners who took home total of $82,000 were announced at the competition's final round after three days of preliminary auditions during which 24 finalists were selected.

Seven winning singers of George London Awards were rewarded with $10,000 each. Another seven singers were given George London Foundation Encouragement Awards of $1,000 each, and 10 finalists received Honorable Mention Awards worth $500 each. Three out of seven George London Awards previously received Encouragement Awards, which proves that to encourage reaps its harvest.

2013 George London Awards winners are tenor Dominic Armstrong, tenor, Noah Baetge, baritone, Jamez McCorkle, soprano, Felicia Moore, soprano, Jessica Muirhead, barinote, Nicholas Pallesen, and soprano, Marcy Stonikas.

2013 George London Foundation Encouragement Awards received tenor, Adam Bonanni, baritone, John Brancy, mezzo-soprano, Rihab Chaieb, soprano, Marina Costa-Jackson, mezzo-soprano, Shirin Eskandani, barinote, Steven LaBrie, and baritone, Jonathan Michie.

The panel of judges included mezzo-soprano Nedda Casei, Alfred F. Hubay, a former MET administrator, mezzo-soprano Harolyn Blackwell, Nora London, George Lodnon Foundation President, tenor George Shirley, and Thurmond Smithgall, performing arts consultant. Linda Hall was the competition pianist.

George London Foundation for Singers has been giving George London Awards since 1971 to a talented roster of young opera singers from America and Canada to support and nurture young singers. Well known opera singer such as Renée Fleming, Joyce DiDonato, James Morris, Matthew Polenzani, belong to the list of past winners.
