The 2014 World Series has hardcore baseball fans as well as casual spectators excited this October. In fact, the entire playoffs has had a palpable buzz that one can almost feel in the air. Culminating in a rare Championship series between two wildcard teams, the Series is tied at 2-2 as of last night. The Giants pounded the Royals, continuing the trend of blowouts (three of the four games have been decided by five runs or more. As San Francisco and Kansas City take turns pummeling each other, fans are sitting at the edge of their seats.
Even though the scores have largely been lopsided, this year's World Series is still very evenly matched. It's almost like a boxing match: two titans squaring off toe to toe, each taking turns having the upper hand.
It's not just the closeness that's got everyone excited this October, however. It's the playmaking as well (via Huffington Post):
"Showcasing baseball at its exciting best, the game included a sprawling catch by Royals center fielder Jarrod Dyson that left a pair of divots, and the first use of expanded video review in Series history - which became a turning point."
One silver lining for Kansas City, perhaps, is that their bullpen is relatively fresh (via Yahoo Sports):
"Never mind that the Royals didn't deploy any of their three ace relievers. The Giants so thrashed Kansas City's middle-relief corps en route to an 11-4 victory that locked up the World Series at two games apiece, the Royals didn't bother summoning Kelvin Herrera, Wade Davis or Greg Holland... Using them in a game like this would've constituted a waste."
As America continues to rabidly devour this post-season glut of competitive baseball, one wonders why the regular season is so long. If baseball were this exciting all year round, more of us might watch!
