Third Street Music School Celebrates 120th Anniversary with a Holiday Concert

The nation’s oldest community music school, Third Street Music School Settlement, will be celebrating its 120th anniversary with a special annual holiday concert at New York University's Skirball Center for the Performing Arts.

Students of all ages will be performing traditional carols, orchestral classics and modern holiday hits. The performance will showcase the school’s rock and jazz ensembles, choirs, orchestras and jazz big band, as well as dancers who will be performing different selections from The Nutcracker.

This show comes as a part of the East Village institution's year-long anniversary celebration, which features a series of special events all through the upcoming year. This winter show comes as the school's main event.
Third Street Music School Settlement has become a New York staple and has provided musical instruction to many notable alumni, including 1920s hit-maker Irving Caesar ("Tea for Two"), film composer Robert Lopez (Book of Mormon, Frozen), pop-star Ingrid Michaelson ("Girls Chase Boys") and NPR host Robert Siegel.

Third Street Music School continues to provide music and dance instruction in its East Village location to nearly 5,000 students, with more than 75 percent benefiting from need-based financial aid, merit-based scholarships and free and low-cost instruction. The school believes in community as well as the arts, with many students starting as toddlers and remaining until they graduate from high school.

This highlight winter show will be held Dec. 7 at 1 p.m. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online here, by phone at 212-352-3101 or 866-811-4111 or in person at the NYU Skirball Center box office at 566 LaGuardia Place.
