Anna Netrebko Honored for Charity

According to a recent poll by RU News, operatic sensation Anna Netrebko was the only Russian to be honored for her altruism.

Netrebko, alongside her equally talented husband Erwin Schrott, help run the Anna and Erwin Foundation, which supports pediatric hospitals and educational facilities.

The good will doesn't stop there, however. Anna and Erwin have long been committed to the fight against AIDS, as well:

As Norman Lebrecht notes on his always informative Arts Journal blog, Slipped Disc, Netrebko is home in Vienna this week, preparing for her role debut as Tatiana in Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin.

Here's Netrebko singing Tchaikovsky's "Does The Day Reign," accompanied by one of classical music's most benevolent forces, himself, Daniel Barenboim.

And speaking of Onegin, one of Classicalite's favorite baritones, Dmitri Hvorostovsky, will sing the title role. Meanwhile, Dmitry Korchak will sing Lensky, and Stephanie Houtzeel will sing Olga.

Andris Nelsons will conduct all four April performances (12, 15, 18 and 22) of Tchaikovsky's classic.
