OK, how awesome does a School of Rock musical sound? Pretty dang awesome, if you ask us.
Last week, "The Lord" of the theater told CBC Radio's Jian Ghomeshi that he was "very excited" about the prospect of bringing Dewey Finn, the rocker-cum-teacher hilariously played by Jack Black in the 2003 film, to the stage.
"There may be songs for me in it," Lloyd Webber said of the potential score, "but it's obviously got songs in it as it stands."
If you remember the movie, you'll recall how laugh-out-loud funny the debt-ridden Finn was in eventually leading his class to victory at the local battle of the bands. We wouldn't want to spoil any of those laughs, though, so here's Black and class performing on Sharon Osbourne's show:
As for Sir Andrew, the composer just finished a musical based on Stephen Ward, the doctor and artist who took the fall for the Profumo Affair in 1963 Britain.
The tune "Theme for Stephen Ward" debuted on Easter Day, as part of an ITV special charting 40 years of Andrew Lloyd Webber's music. Australian pianist and composer Jonathan Cox turned in a beautifully somber reading of Ward's theme at the Mozart Hall in Warrnambool, Victoria.
From British political scandals to American rock 'n' roll, Lloyd Webber takes it all in stride.
"I will go from Stephen Ward, which is really going to be sort of a chamber musical, to a musical about kids playing the guitar," he told the CBC.
Yeah, this one's gonna be awesome!
