Pianist Chilly Gonzales Announces New 2015 Album 'Chambers' as a Follow-Up to 'Solo Piano II'

Canadian pianist, Chilly Gonzales, will be releasing his much anticipated new album, Chambers, on Gentle Threat Records as a follow-up to his hit 2012 album, Solo Piano II.

Gonzales' penchant for entertaining is almost as popular as his piano playing. He displays the skills of classical and jazz training but with a style and aggressiveness all his own. His 2012 album, Solo Piano II, was nominated for the 2013 Polaris Prize and he recently collaborated with Boyz Noize, an electronic music producer, to create the electronic/piano hybrid album, Octave Minds. His most famous song, “Never Stop,” was featured on an Apple iPad commercial.

However, his new album will be the culmination of his search to produce a modern take on chamber music. Chambers is an album for piano and string quartet and has been influenced by his relationship with Hamburg’s Kaiser Quartett.

A press release says that the album "re-imagines Romantic-era chamber music as today's addictive pop," and adds that "gestures from rap, ambient, easy listening and the avant-garde co-exist as always in Chilly Gonzales' musical universe — this time with strings attached."

Gonzales' fame extends to musicians from all varieties of music. He performs and writes songs with Peaches and Feist and Drake. His collaboration with Daft Punk on their Random Access Memories album won him a Grammy in 2014. He also holds the Guinness world record for the longest solo concert at over 27 hours.

The release date for Chambers is still unknown. Until then, check out the trailer for the new album down below.
