Sienna Miller Takes Over the Role of Sally Bowles in 'Cabaret' When Emma Stone Departs

The Cabaret will go on after Emma Stone leaves. It has been announced that Sienna Miller will take over as the iconic Sally Bowles in the Studio 54 production Feb. 17.

Miller, regaining her role as a Hollywood it-girl with recent roles in American Sniper and Foxcatcher, is the next in a long line of celebrities who have played the popular character. Stone, famous for movies The Help and Birdman, took over for Michelle Williams in April. Her performance was so positively received that she extended her stay for two weeks after the intended time. Now Miller will start her six-week stint after Stone departs.

This is not Miller’s first foray into Broadway, playing Miss Julie in her 2009 debut in After Miss Julie. But it seems like Bowles is the new role everyone wants. The (New York) Daily News spoke to Joe Masteroff, who wrote the book for Cabaret, and got his opinion on why everyone wants to play her.

“Sally will do and say anything,” he says. “She not only knows what she wants, she does it. When she sets her mind on something, whoever’s opposing that is in big trouble. Sally has to be a little tough.”

This role just seems to be one that can’t be passed up.

Alan Cumming will continue his run as Emcee at Studio 54 through the show’s entire run March 29, and the musical will launch a 20-city North American tour starting January 2016.

In addition to Stone and Cumming, the musical currently features Linda Emond and Danny Burstein as Fraulein Schneider and Herr Schultz, with Bill Heck as Clifford Bradshaw, Hani Furstenberg as Fraulein Kost and Aaron Krohn as Ernst Ludwig.
