New York Festival of Song Presents 'NYFOS Next,' a Three-Day Concert Featuring Adam Guettel, George Steel, Paul Moravec and Bright Sheng

The New York Festival of Song is back with “NYFOS Next,” a three-day, premiere-filled concert at OPERA America’s National Opera Center. This year’s concerts include works by Adam Guettel, George Steel, Paul Moravec and Bright Sheng.

The opening night of the concert will feature new songs from Millions, an upcoming musical by Adam Guettel, as well as the first hearings from a new musical by George Steel and the world premiere of Three Vernacular Songs by Gabriel Kahane as well as Navajo composer Juantio Becenti.

The concert continues the next week with an evening of new music hosted and curated by Paul Moravec featuring a preview of arias from his new opera The Shining, which will premiere with the Minnesota Opera in May 2016.

NYFOS rounds out with an evening of new music hosted and curated by Bright Sheng, featuring scenes from his new opera Dream of the Red Chamber, which premieres with the San Francisco Opera in fall 2016. The night will also include songs by Sheng’s students at the University of Michigan alongside his mentors George Perle and Leonard Bernstein.

This is NYFOS's 27th season and its fifth seasons presenting “NYFOS Next.” This three-concert mini-festival is the first time the show will be presented in this format. NYFOS is dedicated to creating original and beautiful, intimate song concerts, particularly celebrating American song. In November 2010, NYFOS premiered "NYFOS Next," a series for new songs hosted by guest composers in intimate venues.

This series will premiere Feb. 3 and continue Feb. 10 and 17. For more information or to purchase tickets to any of the shows, click here.
