Republican Senator Proposes Medical Marijuana Bill in South Carolina After Medicinal Weed Meeting [2015]

South Carolina senators and Representatives met on Thursday to discuss ways to bring medical marijuana to the state. Republican Senator Tom Davis and Representative Jenny Horne are reportedly bringing forth new legislation in February, 2015 to make medical marijuana legal in the Palmetto State. Could medicinal weed really become legal in South Carolina?

Republican Senator Tom Davis spoke with CBS affiliate WLTX News 19 in Columbia, SC, about the issue, stating:

"We've already said that CBD oil that has .9% THC and can be authorized so I think its the logical next step to develop protocols for the growing and dispensation of it.”

Davis was referring to a bill passed year, that allows patients with epilepsy to use oil made from marijuana plants for treatment.

Davis went on to add there is still a lot to consider, stating:

"You have to also take into consideration and what the concerns are and what some potential abuses are. Otherwise, you're not going to come up with a good piece of legislation."
