2013 has not been a great year for the Octomom's kids. Nadya Suleman, their mom, has been accused of welfare fraud and an investigation is pending.
The Los Angeles County Department of Welfare Fraud Prevention and Investigation, the WFP&I, has begun to seize her bank records. These, among other documents, are being collected in order to prosecute Suleman.
Search warrants were issued at multiple locations. The home and office of her manager was raided in connection with the charge.
The WFP&I began their investigation after being tipped off by an unnamed source. It was alleged that Ms. Suleman, mother of 14, knowingly filed for benefits she did not deserve.
Benefit eligibility has a cap of $114,000. Octomom raked in an impressive $200,000 last year.
How she earned that cash is quite disturbing. Nadya Suleman was compensated for personal appearances, stripping and pornography.
In addition to her six-figure gigs, she also took in a staggering $60,000 from the government--in the form of welfare benefits like food stamps.
Midway through 2012, Octomom voluntarily withdrew herself from the welfare assistance program. In January of 2013, she reapplied.
Gina Rodriquez, her former representative, issued the following statement:
"[Suleman] spent most of her savings while she was in Chapman Treatment center, paying for around-the-clock nannies, drivers, security and her treatment program. She does not expect to be on [welfare] longer than three months."
That appears not to have been the case.
If convicted, Octomom could face up to three years in jail.
