Beach Boys's Brian Wilson Biographical Film 'Love & Mercy' Starring Paul Dano and John Cusack Due Out in June

Wouldn’t it be nice if they came out with a movie about songwriter and Beach Boys co-founder Brian Wilson? Well, the wait is over. Paul Dano and John Cusack will star as Wilson in Love & Mercy, an upcoming biographical film due out in June.

The movie is based on the Beach Boys co-founder's success and turmoil throughout his life. An eerily similar-looking Dano will star as 1960s-era Wilson, as he resigned from touring with his burgeoning pop genius beginning to take flight as he slowly begins his dark decent into reclusiveness.

Cusack then comes in as '80s Wilson, already in the midst of his mental breakdowns and under the care of manipulative therapist Eugene Landy (Paul Giamatti). Elizabeth Banks is also featured in the film as a Cadillac dealer named Melinda Ledbetter, who later becomes Wilson’s second wife.

Bill Pohlad, producer of 12 Years a Slave and The Tree of Life, will direct the movie. Besides Cusack, Dano, Giamatti and Banks, the film also stars Jake Abel as Mike Love, Kenny Wormald as Dennis Wilson and Joanna Going as Audree Wilson.

The film premiered in the Special Presentations section of the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival and received acclaim for its unique biographical approach, Dano’s performance and the score by popular composer Atticus Ross. An accompanying soundtrack, featuring the work of Ross, known for his work on Gone Girl, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Social Network, will be released by Capitol Records in 2015.

Love & Mercy officially opens in theaters June 5.
