Soprano Sarah Brightman Plans To Be First Diva To Sing on ISS Space Adventure, Spends $52 Million

Perhaps one of the world's most famous sopranos, Sarah Brightman, announced a while back that on Sept. 1 she will be on board Soyuz flight TMA18M bound for the International Space Station hundreds of miles above Earth. And now she discusses what that means for her career.

Brightman is the largest selling soprano as of late with an astounding 30 million records sold. She has also fallen into the limelight when she announced back in 2012 that she intended to heed the latest space traveling tourist attraction.

In an interview at RT, she was questioned about how she could afford the $52 million fee for the 10-day retreat.

"I have paid for the trip myself," says Brightman to Sophie Shevarnadze, when asked about the financial resignation to become the second-ever female space tourist.

She continues:

"Some people want to give money to their children, buy houses, go on a holiday — whatever it is that they want to invest in. This particular journey has been something that I wanted to do most of my life, but there was no real opportunity to do so."

In addition to her eccentric space escapades abound, she also plans to become to the first diva to sing from space. The 54-year-old even enlisted her old love interest, Andrew Lloyd-Webber, to coin some lyrics for the ocoasion.

Certainly a diva that transcends the confines of gravity (literally), we wish her all the best.

In the meantime, check her out below.
