When it comes to the uber-secretive world of Scientology, rumors are always flying. That was certainly the case this week, when multiple media outlets confirmed HBO's new Scientology documentary claims that the Church of Scientology had a major role in Tom Cruise's divorce from Nicole Kidman. These latest allegations come after a major U.S.-tabloid claimed that Tom Cruise and John Travolta are gay, a rehashing of decades-old rumors that are as laughable as they are homophobic.
With HBO's upcoming Scientology documentary, Going Clear, set to premiere this Sunday, it's no surprise that media outlets are focusing on the world's most secretive religion...and its most famous spokesperson, Tom Cruise.
According to multiple reports, the documentary -- which the Church of Scientology has repeatedly criticized for allegedly being inaccurate - makes claims that the religion purposefully broke up the marriage of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman.
According to New York Post, the documentary claims that the Church broke up Tom and Nicole so Cruise could focus more on promoting Scientology:
"During his marriage to Kidman, Cruise was only tenuously connected to the church from about 1992 to 2001, according to Scientology experts interviewed in Going Clear, which is based on Lawrence Wright's 2013 book of the same name...The church, according to the documentary, wanted to break up Kidman and Cruise so that Cruise would more enthusiastically embrace the church and help publicize its mission."
The church has since denied these allegations.
One thing that doesn't need to be denied, however, is Star's laughable allegations that Tom Cruise and John Travolta were in a secret gay relationship over thirty years ago.
Although Tom and John made the cover of last week's tabloid, Gossip Cop tells readers that the story is absolutely false:
"Tom Cruise and John Travolta have not had a 30-year secret gay relationship, despite what Star is clearly trying to imply with its new cover story. Gossip Cop can bust the report, which tries to make it seem like the actors have been hiding a romance. The whole thing is a bait-and-switch."
