'King of Queens' Leah Remini Leaves Scientology Because of Tom Cruise Wedding, Scared for Members' Safety

Leah Remini, she of King of Queens fame, is no longer part of the Church of Scientology. Remini has left the church she's called home for so long out of concern that members' lives are in jeopardy. And it all stems from the day of Tom Cruise's wedding.

Tony Ortega, former Village Voice editor, hosts the popular anti-Scientology blog--The Underground Bunker. Ortega was the first to announce that Mrs. Remini was parting ways with the church.

"Over the weekend, we were contacted by several sources with detailed inside knowledge who tell us Remini is breaking away because of the way leader David Miscavige is treating church members, Sea Org workers, and Scientology itself," Ortega claims. "According to our sources, Remini has been distancing herself from what she refers to as the church’s 'corrupt management' for a few years."

Ortega went on to say that this whole mess goes all the way back to 2006, when Remini made the mistake of asking one question too many--as is often the case with the church's secretive members--at the wedding of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.

Remini happened to ask COS grand magus David Miscavige why his wife, Michelle, was not in attendance. This simple inquisition infuriated the leader of the Church Scientology (a religion that many classify as a cult).

For his part, Tony Ortega described why this was such a significant event:

"In November 2006, when the Cruise-Holmes wedding occurred, it was still surprising for Remini to see Miscavige at such a major event without his wife. When she asked about it she was told to shut up, as if the question itself was out of line. That did not sit well with the actress, who is known for speaking her mind."
