Avengers 2: Age of Ultron stars Chris Evans (Captain America) and Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) are in a bit hot water with fans after they slut shamed Scarlett Johansson character The Black Widow. While on the press tour the two male Avengers, referred to their female team member as a “slut,” and a “whore: for expressing a romantic intrest in Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk.
Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner let down a lot of fans recently, when they made a few unheroic comments about the Black Widow. While addressing Widow’s relationship with the Hulk in the new Avengers film, Renner told Digital Spy, “She’s a slut.”
Chris Evans started laughing like a fifth grader, adding “a complete whore.”
Evans and Renner later issued a statement to Entertainment Weekly, with Evans expressing:
“Yesterday we were asked about the rumors that Black Widow wanted to be in a relationship with both Hawkeye and Captain America. We answered in a very juvenile and offensive way that rightfully angered some fans. I regret it and sincerely apologize.”
Jeremy Renner followed suit, stateing:
“I am sorry that this tasteless joke about a fictional character offended anyone. It was not meant to be serious in any way. Just poking fun during an exhausting and tedious press tour.”
