Leave it up to the city of New Orleans to get their NBA halftime show right, as the Crescent City's own Trombone Shorty (a.k.a. Troy Andrews) took over the floor for the Warriors-Pelicans basketball game. If you follow sportin' life at all, you'll know that this weekend's NBA playoffs have been pretty frackin' entertaining--and not just the spectacular basketball that's been played. Case in point, Mr. Shorty's most valuable performance in Game 3.
While we've certainly had some good LOLz here during opening weekend--hell, we all suffered Coolio's erstwhile bangers during the Spurs-Clippers game--the talent got infinitely worse at the Staples Center in Los Angeles come Game 2.

However, true Classicalites shoulda known that the New Orleans Pelicans would bless our li'l hearts with the best performance of the playoffs thus far (of course, save for the sobering realization that they're down 3-0 against Curry's midas mercenaries and are very much looking like they'll get swept in an early, first-round massacre).
Not surprisingly, TNT effed up the A.V. at first, but what follows henceforth is pretty darn dank.

Andrews-cum-Shorty is a trombone and trumpet player out of New Orleans, Louisiana. Growing up in the city's Treme neighborhood (yep, that same Simon says show upon which he had a recurring role, as himself), Andrews has worked well in both jazz and funk--though I could do without his rap clap trap. Shorty's the younger brother of trumpeter and bandleader James Andrews, as well as the grandson of singer-songwriter Jessie Hill. T. Short began playing trombone at age four, and according to his always informative website (as I definitely did not know this), Andrews got his first, real touring gig with Lenny Kravitz's horn section from 2005-2006.
