Green Bay to Honor Retired Brett Favre After Trade, Won't Allow to Play on Field

The Green Bay Packers and their future Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre have had a rocky relationship since he was traded in 2008. The Packers have seemed to try their hardest to distance themselves since his retirement, until now. Green Bay will honor Favre on July 18 during the Packers Hall of Fame ceremony. And in a move that makes sense only to the Packers, the charity flag football game set for the next day and headlined by Favre returning to the field, will not be allowed on Lambeau Field, furthering the confusion of how they value Favre and his legacy.

The Hall of Fame ceremony is already a sold out event at the Lambeau Field Atrium, but Packers' officials have opened up the seating of Lambeau Field for a viewing of the event on the team video board.

After all the accolades comes the real excitement. Seeing the ol' gunslinger go at it again.

The all-star charity flag football game with Favre starting at quarterback is still trying to finalize a location for the game. The Packers don't want him playing at Lambeau because the team says it doesn't want to further cause damage to its grass. Interestingly enough though, the team is allowing a Kenny Chesney concert to rock out less than a month before the celebration of one of the team's biggest stars ever.

The Packers director of public affairs Aaron Popkey tries to explain to ESPN:

"Our main goal for Lambeau Field's playing surface is to have it in the best condition possible for the start of the season. The June 20 Chesney-Aldean concert will add some challenges to that goal, so we need to prevent any further wear and tear on the field prior to August. We unfortunately had to pass on the event, but we look forward to Brett's return to Lambeau Field for his Hall of Fame induction and number retirement, July 18, and wish him the best for a successful charity event, July 19."

The other option according to a University of Wisconsin tweet via CBSSports states:

"We have been and continue to be in discussion with Marty Garafalo of Gameday Entertainment regarding a flag football game at Camp Randall Stadium involving Brett Favre. However, at this time, nothing has been finalized."

Unbelievable. Favre wants to play and no one wants to let him. The Packers should feel guilty choosing Chesney over Favre.
