Panthers Cam Newton Graduates From Auburn, Wants to Open a Day Care Center

Cam Newton is a man of his word, especially to his mom. The former Auburn University star and current quarterback of the Carolina Panthers left school early after being awarded the Heisman Trophy. The Panthers went on to select him to become their quarterback of the future. With his return to finish his schooling during the offseason, it seems the recent graduate now has a day care center he wants to open since receiving his degree in sociology.

Newton left Auburn after winning the Heisman and a national championship, with one year remaining before he could call himself a graduate. Even with the grueling year round schedule that is the NFL, he was able to find time each spring to return to Auburn and finish what he started.

Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn told AL.com that he knew how important this was to Newton:

"I'm very proud of Cam. He promised his mom he would do that and I was very proud he accomplished that goal."

Newton also had this to say about the accomplishment to theplainsman.com:

"When I do get my diploma, I'm going to put it right above my mom's door, so she knows her words were not in vain. All my awards that mean the world to me are implanted (in her house), and this is no different. If anything, it's going right along next to the Heisman."

The newly graduated Newton wants to turn his degree into something positive once he finishes his playing career. With his sociology degree, he wants to open up a day care center:

"And as I get more educated about sociology, and education as a whole, shame on me if I don't use my influence in a positive way. Someone may look at my situation and say, 'He may be financially set, but yet he's bettering himself.' Maybe I can encourage somebody else who is in my situation or is down and out [to] always strive for a better you and that's what this was pretty much all about: making myself better."

It sounds like mom is going to be nothing but proud for her baby boy.
