The Zen master of the NBA had himself a little tantrum over former player Steve Kerr's Golden State Warriors. New York Knicks president Phil Jackson let his jealous feelings be known about Kerr, who snubbed him by not becoming the Knicks' coach this past season, by way of Twitter. The tweets seemed out of place for someone who is a Buddhist and also a dedicated fan of the Grateful Dead, otherwise known as a deadhead.
Steve Kerr was once a player for the Jackson-coached Chicago Bulls dynasty during the Michael Jordan era. With the basketball intelligence that Jackson possesses, he was able to see that Kerr was a great student and could become an even better coach. Prior to this past season, the Knicks were in search of a new coach, with Jackson in favor of hiring Kerr. With Kerr taking the Warriors job instead of the Knicks, it seems Jackson hasn't let go. During the Warriors last playoff series, Jackson decided to let out some smug tweets aimed at Kerr NBCNewYork.com says:
"NBA analysts give me some diagnostics on how 3pt oriented teams are faring this playoffs...seriously, how's it goin(g)?''
Maybe Jackson needs to listen to the words of Jerry Garcia, Robert Hunter, and Bob Weir just a little closer. The deadhead has been a huge fan of the Grateful Dead for years, even once vacationing with the band. The New York Post has Bob Weir's comments about the basketball genius:
"He's a singularity in the world of sports. He's a guy who is a pure manifestation of spirit -- both in physical, mental and emotional form. A singularity. There's nobody like him. He's got a clarity about him as a player in his physical actions back then and as a coach/president. It's the kind of clarity he imparts that motivates players. He's a wonderful guy to hang with as well."
Jackson needs to catch the Dead one last time this summer and get his Zen ways back to help the Knicks become competitive again.
