Bethenny Frankel, Real Housewives star, disses Teresa Giudice and her husband Joe for being arrested. The socialite didn't pull any punches as she pretty much called the New Jersey couple "dumb."
Bethenny, who is perhaps the most successful of all the housewives, was doing press for upcoming show, Bethenny, when she was asked about the legal troubles of the Giudices. She didn't disappoint, telling the press that:
"My first thought today was, 'Oh, if they weren't on reality TV, none of this would probably ever be exposed.' And it's just funny how certain people are [like a] moth to a flame. It's almost like--not that you want to get caught--but people who love to be in the spotlight often have a lot of skeletons in their closet. It's just an interesting thing."
She went on:
"I haven't paid that much attention. Do I feel sorry for them? No, I don't. Not so much, because it broke the law. You broke the law and you went on television. That's not really that smart."
Teresa Giudice, star of Real Housewives of New Jersey, was arrested and appeared in court alongside her husband Giuseppe "Joe" Giudice. The two are facing tax, wire and bank fraud charges.
Teresa and Joe are being charged in a 39-count indictment. The charges consist of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, bank fraud, falsifying loan applications and bankruptcy fraud.
Yikes. Those are pretty hefty allegations for the reality stars to face. The judge didn't take it lightly, either.
The couple have had to turn in their passports, as they were viewed as a flight risk. In fact, the pair aren't even allowed to leave New Jersey and New York.
These allegations pose a serious risk to Teresa's husband as he faces deportation if guilty. Joe is a citizen of Italy.
The most severe charges the pair face is loan application fraud and bank fraud. The maximum penalties for these crimes is 30 years in prison and up to a one million dollar fine.
The charges stem from a series of applications the couple filed from 2001 to 2008. In addition to creating fake W-2s and tax returns, they also submitted fraudulent loan and mortgage applications.
Paul Fishman, the US Attorney who is prosecuting the Giudices, chastised the couple and took a jab at their careers:
"Everyone has an obligation to tell the truth when dealing with the courts, paying their taxes and applying for loans or mortgages. That's reality."
Teresa showed no shame in her occupation, telling press that:
"I am committed to my family and intend to maintain our lives in the best way possible, which includes continuing my career."
