The Los Angeles Dodgers are still continuing to play at a high level of competition, even without their controversial spark of an outfielder. The Dodger Cuban sensation Yasiel Puig is injured for the first time in his career. The man that is known for his bat flips after landing a big home run has been keeping busy while on the injured reserve. Puig was asked to show off some Dodger gear for an athletic company's new fashion campaign.
Puig has an eccentric way of playing the game that can rally a team he is a part of and can frustrate opposing players and teams. One of the most frustrating moments -- especially for an opposing pitcher -- is when Puig connects for a big hit and does his flip of the bat. With fighting off injuries and a slow start to the season, USA Today Sports for the Win wondered to Puig why there hadn't been so many flips so far this year:
"Last year I had more pop than this year. Home Run [claps hands] POW! Bat flip. It's a home run! This year? I swing, it's not a home run. Why even bat flip? When I hit a big home run? I'll Bat flip. It's my game, the people like it. When you do the bat flip, everybody's talking. When you don't do the bat flip, everybody's talking too [Laughs]. "
While dealing with his hamstring injury and the time off that comes with it Puig found himself trying out something he would have never dreamed of as a youngster, a fashion model. Athletic jacket company Starter tagged Puig to model their new line of gear. Fox Sports tells of the quote he gave fashion media outlet WWD when asked about his fashion during his youth:
"Puig comes across as an unlikely star for a fashion campaign. He chortles when asked what kind of clothes he liked wearing when growing up in Cuba. 'I didn't have clothes,' he replied through an interpreter, describing his personal style then as 'barefoot and no clothes."'
