Robert Griffin III Thinks 2015 Washington Football Team Will Be Competitive

The Washington Redskins have been a struggling football team for the past two seasons, both defensively and offensively. Most blame for the stagnant offense has deservedly gone to the quarterback. After winning the Rookie of the Year award in 2012, quarterback Robert Griffin III has not been able to continue his success statistically. Griffin thinks that the 2015 campaign will be much different with the team being competitive, because of a better understanding of the offense and knowing what the coaches expect of him.

Head coach Jay Gruden was brought in before this past season and, with him, a new offensive scheme. Griffin struggled to adjust to the Gruden's style, and the offensive never clicked. During this offseason, Griffin has embraced the system tells Redskins he finally understands what is expected of him:

"Like I said, it's good to have the same offense and the same coaches and work through building that relationship with those guys, so it's really about that and doing what they ask you to do, working on little things that you know you can do to get better, and being yourself. The one thing you can't do as a player is lose who you are, and I'm going to make sure that doesn't happen."

Griffin knows what is expected of him, but as he also explained to The Washington Times, he understands the type of player he is as well:

"You have got to be true to who you are, and right now I'm a 25-year-old young man who can do a lot of different things. I'm not going to limit myself to just being a dropback passer. But if Coach Gruden and [offensive coordinator] Sean McVay asked me to be a drop-back passer in any given situation, my job is to make sure that I can be."

Will Griffin and Gruden be able to coexist and bring the Washington team back to competitiveness? Will RG3 have a rebound year statistically? Tell us what you think below.
