Kim Gordon Announces Limited Edition Release of 'Inversions' Ballet on Vinyl

Ex-Sonic Youth bassist-vocalist Kim Gordon has embarked on a few projects as of late. One being her memoir Girl in a Band and the other a commissioned work for Inversions, a ballet by New York mastermind Nick Mauss. Now, that audio will be available per a limited edition vinyl release.

In a report by Exclaim, the multi-disciplinary performance premiered last October at London' Frieze Art Fair. Kenneth Tindal of Northern Ballet choreographed while Mauss conceptualized the work.

Gordon was commissioned to provide music for the ballet, which was performed live. Text was added by poet Juliana Huxtable and, although Mauss is generally known as a painter-sculptor, Music for Inversions is his first major performance piece.

Though an exact has not been confirmed, the release will only run about 250 copies and will include silk-screened cover art by Mauss himself. Full inquiries on pre-orders can be directed to the contact info@303inprint.com.

Earlier this year Gordon was the subject of controversy when her book beseeched fellow artist Lana Del Rey to commit suicide. In response to the backlash, Gordon had pulled copies to revise the quote.

In it, however, Gordon also discusses her hatred for Courtney Love and Smashing Pumpkins front man Billy Corgan.

Also, earlier this month, the 62-year-old musician collaborated with J Mascis on the song "Slow Boy." The track is taken from a new compilation by show brand Converse, entitled CONS EP Vol. 3.

Kim also recently opened an exhibit dubbed Design Office: The City Is a Garden at New York's 303 Gallery. The exhibition runs until July 24. More info can be found here.

So while you await your limited edition copy by Gordon and Mauss, be sure to keep up with her noise duo below.
