Broadway Misery: Bruce Willis Tortured By Laurie Metcalf, Not House of Cards' Elizabeth Marvel

Jackie from Roseanne, otherwise known as Laurie Metcalf, has replaced Elizabeth Marvel (House of Cards) in the upcoming Broadway production of Misery--based on the Stephen King novel of the same name.

As Entertainment Weekly reports, Metcalf will star as the fan-crazed, Annie Wilkes. Naturally, everyone is hoping that Metcalf can traumatize theater-goers playing the role that Kathy Bates immortalized in the 1990 film adaptation. According to Deadline, House of Cards' Elizabeth Marvel had to drop the role due to scheduling conflicts and Metcalf was able to join the cast.

Classicalites, relive some of the craziness and sheer insanity that Kathy Bates provided in the 1990 film adaptation.

The object of misplaced affection will be played by none other than Bruce Willis--whose character, Paul Sheldon, is a successful novelist rescued from a terrible car crash by Wilkes. Upon reading his new manuscript, she becomes enraged when she learns that he plans to kill off her favorite character, Misery Chastain.

Let's not forget that Bruce Willis is no stranger to fatal attraction, as he hasn't been this put upon by a diabolical women since the 1992 classic, Death Becomes Her--which starred Willis, Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn.

According to EW, Metcalf, who has three Emmys, was last seen on Broadway in 2013's The Other Place, playing a successful neurologist whose own mind begins to crumble at the peak of her career. Her other Broadway credits include Brighton Beach Memoirs, November and My Thing of Love. Oscar winner William Goldman, who penned the screenplay for the 1990 film, has written the stage adaptation, which will be directed by Will Frears.

Misery begins previews on October 22 at Broadway's Broadhurst Theatre, with opening night set for November 15. The play will run for 16 weeks.
