Many fans were wondering if Wentworth Miller was gay or straight. That mystery has been solved as the Prison Break star officially came out. The actor/writer broke the news that he is homosexual in an open letter speaking out against Russia's anti-gay policies.
Multi-ethnic actor Wentworth Miller has little patience for discrimination. The part black, part white, part a little bit of almost everything else, self-professed "racial Lone Ranger" has roots all over the place.
Miller's background even branches out to Russia, but it won't stop him from speaking out against the Motherland's extreme homophobia.
Miller publicly added another stripe to his already colorful rainbow when he came out, in order to speak out against Vladimir Putin's intolerance.
In an open letter to GLAAD, Miller declined an invitation to the St. Petersburg International Film Festival, in protest of the anti-gay law passed by the Russian president earlier this year.
The letter reads:
"Thank you for your kind invitation. As someone who has enjoyed visiting Russia in the past and can also claim a degree of Russian ancestry, it would make me happy to say yes. However, as a gay man, I must decline. I am deeply troubled by the current attitude toward and treatment of gay men and women by the Russian government.
The situation is in no way acceptable, and I cannot in good conscience participate in a celebratory occasion hosted by a country where people like myself are being systematically denied their basic right to live and love openly. If circumstances improve, I'll be free to make a different choice."
Russia' s highly controversial anti gay law bans and criminalizes distribution of "homosexual propaganda" and equates homosexuals with pedophiles. The law comes on the heels of widespread attacks against gays and opens the door for further attacks to become commonplace.
