DuWayne Burnside, Mississppi Blues All-Star, Continues to Elude Police Manhunt

An ongoing manhunt is still going for all-star Mississippi blues musician, DuWayne Burnside. Having fled from a traffic stop into heavily wooded area on July 9, it is speculated that Burnside eluded police in light of a warrant for his arrest over failure to pay child support .

According to Gulf Live and the Jackson Clarion Ledger, Marshall County Sheriff Kenny Dickerson said that Burnside is wanted on said charges and was stopped by a narcotics officer who recognized the performer.

Once in pursuit, it's been reported that Burnside headed to Highway 78 before abandoning his vehicle and running.

Major David Cook of the Marshall County Sheriff's Office told WREG-TV:

"We're under the impression he ran from us to escape going to jail on the child support warrant. And once the officer initiated the traffic stop, he fled to Highway 78 going West toward Memphis and then bailed out of the vehicle and ran."

Deputies, a K-9 Officer and members of the Holly Springs Department descended on the wooded area that DuWayne disappeared into. Following footprints left in a creek bed, officers were unable to keep up with the fugitivie.

If you aren't in the know, Burnside is one of 14 children of the legendary Mississippian R.L. Burnside. DuWayne is a large figure in the blues world, having collaborated with the likes of Albert King, B.B. King, Jimmy King as well as fronting the band DuWayne Burnside & the Mississippi Mafia.

R.L Burnside is a bluesman and disciple of Mississippian Fred McDowell. He experienced great success in the 1990s when he was embraced by a slew of indie rockers akin to fellow blues guitarist, John Fahey.
