Joanna Newsom Announces New Album "Divers," Debuts Music Video for 'Sapokanikan'

Joanna Newsom has just announced a follow up to her 2010 triple album Have One on Me. The forthcoming LP, Divers, comes via Drag City and features arrangements from Nico Muhly and more. Along with the new album announcement, Newsom released a music video for the single off the disc, "Sapokanikan." Paul Thomas Anderson directed the video. P.T. Anderson previously directed Newsom in the film Inherent Vice and this is the first music video he's made since Fiona Apple's "Hot Knife."

As always, the video caters to Newsom's natural appeal and showcases New York in a light most have seen in other videos. Nonetheless, it's worth a watch and definitely a listen.

As a product listing for the album on the Drag City website states, "...further along and down the road apiece from where she took her leave of us, Joanna Newsom plays on. Breathe deep and equalize your today-ears to the new world of Divers..."

While Nico may have contributed to the album, Pitchfork reports that other string arrangements have been contributed by Newsom, Dirty Projectors frontman Dave Longstreth and Ryan Francesconi. Steve Albini and Noah Georgeson recorded the album.

For now, check out the music video from Newsom below and be sure to keep an eye out for the album when it drops October 23. Scroll further to preview a tracklist as well.
